So if you are buying a house now or you bought one in 2009 hoping for one of the two house related tax credits, you have to file a IRS form 5405 and you MUST submit a paper tax return and provide additional documents showing proof that you do qualify for the tax credits.  Right now the E-file system is not able to handle all the different required and recommended documents that have to be scanned and submitted as proof that you did qualify.  Part of the blame is the IRS said last fall that they were looking into more than 70,000 suspicious claims.  So you just have to do it the "old school way" of printing out the form and snail mail it!

  • First being proactive about the problem when the first warning signs start to appear.
  • Call your lender when the warning signs appear and see about doing a loan modifaction or a refi.
  • Don't forget to read your mail....you can't solve the problem if you don't know about it.
  • Don't get scammed by a "private foreclosure prevention specialist" you need to contact a quailified real estate agent to get some good advise.
